engine rough idle and stall, help please!

I have been experiencing a problem with the engine of my 1984 trans am lately. The car starts up just fine, cranks over and idles in park pretty good, however, when put it in drive but remaining at a stop the engine will begin to bog down very low and idle very rough.

When driving the car, as i am slowing down, the car will frequently stall out and must be placed in park and restarted. Once again, it will start just fine after this happens.

I have replaced the spark plugs, plug wires, distributor, power coil, and rotor but none of this has helped. Any idea what other parts may be causing this problem?

The car is a 1984 trans am, automatic transmission, 5.0 liter 305 HO engine, 4 barrel carburetor if that helps. ALso, i am getting a trouble code of "code 45 02 sensor" when i hook a scanner up to it. Could the 02 sensor be the problem?

Thank you so much to anyone that can please help me out!

Re: engine rough idle and stall, help please!

whats it idle at? maybe raise the idle using the screw? and run some carb cleaner through it as well.

p.s. check if your dizzy is loose, maybe the timing is off?
