very bad problem!! help
okay...so every other day my GTA does this thing where the check engine light comes on and it gets really slow and it gets louder..when i press the gas like half way down it barely wants to go.idk what it could be...my only idea is the transmission...becuase it slips alot and shifts very hard.
thanks

Re: very bad problem!! help
You can bring it in to a shop and have them run a diagonostic on it for a code. It might get kinda pricey though because you're saying it'll only happen sometimes.

Re: very bad problem!! help
if you want to check you codes take a paper clip and jump the a and b terminals on the al dl should be the first terminals on the right side of the ALDL which is under neadth the sterring wheel looks like a connector should go there. When you jump the two terminals the check engine light will blick and it will blike fo ex ample Blink..Blink...blink.. pause....Blink....blink this would be code 32. it will repeat 3 times until it goes to the next code. Find out which code it is and repost it here and someone or me should be able to tell you what it is

Re: very bad problem!! help
the transmission isn't electrical... so it can't throw a check engine light. Just bring the car to autozone, they check codes for free.

Copied from a Vader post:
Insert a tool as described above (paper clip) into the 'A' and 'B' terminals on the ALDL connector:
WITHOUT STARTING the engine, turn the ignition to the "RUN" position. Watch the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) - it will begin to flash. This is also commonly called the "Service Engine Soon" or "SES" lamp. The first code will flash three times, and will usually be a code '12'. This is encoded by one flash of the lamp, a brief pause, then two successive flashes of the lamp. Each code will repeat three times, so you should see a "Code 12" flash three times. Any other error codes will follow in numerical order, and each code should flash three times. After all codes have been displayed three times, the "Code 12" will again flash three times, then all other codes will follow as described earlier. This cycle will continue until the jumper is removed or the ignition is turned off.
After you have made a note of all error codes, turn off the ignition and remove the jumper immediately. If you forget to remove the jumper and attempt to start the engine with it in place, you could damage the ECM. For this reason you should remove it immediately.

Re: very bad problem!! help
its located by your knees/shine while sitting the car. you may still have a cover over it. after you use the paper clip or whatever, just turn the key to the run postition, not start, or you'll fry your chip. wait the dashes and blinks. I recommend just install the tranny youself, and get a new one. dont rebuild. theyre both about the same $$ anyways. if you go on craigslist.org you can find a good cheap rebuilt one for 300 bucks. then youll have over 1100 dollars saved.its a good idea to change the torque arm bushing too when the tranny is out and shifter linkage, ujoints, adn transmission bushing. good luck, i havnt swapped a tranny yet, but from the repairs ive done leading up to a swap and the Haynes manual i got, im ready to swap mine next year. then with the old tranny i pull out, im going to try to master rebuilding an actual th-700r4. saves a lot of cash.. a lot. -mikey
