so i peeked ......
into my dads 97 gmc suburban " conversion by southern comfort" and it has a 5.7 vortec engine , is this a good engine ? and is it a 350?

5.7 Liters = 350 cubic inches. I don't know anything about this particular engine... I'll let others chime in with more specific info. Also, why did you post this in the "History and Restoration" section? It would've been better placed in the engine swap forum if that's what you're considering.

The '96-'99 5.7 Vortec is a very popular engine in the hot rod world. The induction system is nothing to write home about (wouldn't recommend using it if the engine comes out of the truck), but the heads have very good ports and combustion chambers, although the exhaust ports can use some help.
The engine is the basis for the 330 HP 350 HO crate engine. Unlike the truck Vortec engines, it has a flat tappet cam. The truck engine has a cam sensor that you wouldn't need if put in a 3rd gen with either an old-school carb or 3rd gen EFI system, but that's not a problem.

nah , not planning on a swap , i just wanted to know a little info on the engine , i still have to mess with my lo3 , anyone know whats the most you can get out of an lo3 , and how much can the stock 700r4 handle without having to swap the tq or any driveline components ?
