Which AFR's would be best?

Ok so here are the engine specs and then future plans.

383 fully forged
11.2:1 Compression
041 heads (2.02/1.5)
XE284H (flat tappet, Duration 240/246, 110 lobe seperation)
Weiand Stealth high rise w/ 1" closed element riser
Holley 700 DP
T-5 (no comments)
3.73's in 10 bolt (no comments)

I have been looking at the AFR 227cc & 235cc. I plan on throwing a little 100 shot of N2O on it later down the road.

My current pistons are Probe SRS flat tops with valve relief cuts. I currently have enough clearance but was wondering if i went to a larger intake and exhaust valves (diameter) will i have to get my pistons fly cut more in order to fit the larger valves?

o ya and which of the 2 heads would be the best match for my setup.

Thanks guys and gals

Re: Which AFR's would be best?

ok so i found my pistons specs and the fly cuts are 2.150 in diameter for both the intake and exhaust. .250 is the depth. so i was thinking is there an equation to figure out how much my cam actually pushes the valves into the combustion chamber using my rocker arm ratio?

man i've saw guys running almost .600 lift without any worries id say you'll be fine.. the formula for valve lift is take the "cam lift" and mulitply it by your rocker ratio.. as far as the heads for id go for the 227cc with the competition port job....anything bigger would be to much for your engine....

is it cam lift at .050" or total lift?

Re: Which AFR's would be best?

well i just looked up the cam your running.... with 1.5 ratio rockers your lift is only .507 intake and .510 on exhaust if your running 1.6 rockers intake would be .541 and exhaust .544 if your gonna run afr's id deff change to 1.6 rockers more lift the better of you are with those heads...but that cam wouldnt do bad with 1.6 rockers Its actually called lobe lift... on the card here is the link to it..incase you've lost your card

i was thinking 1.7's is that too much? that would be right around .574 intake and .580 exhaust.

Re: Which AFR's would be best?

I wouldn't mess with 1.7s. Rocker ratio changes are not going to buy you much power and really high ratio stuff brings it's own problems that you might not want to deal with.

Also, those heads are both overkill for your combination. AFR 195 Eliminator heads are more than adequate to feed that engine. If you feel like going for a little more peak power then step up to the bigger 210s. Compared to the 041s even the smallest set of AFRs will be like bolting a second engine under the hood. You'll probably destroy the rest of your drivetrain even before you bolt on the nitrous system.

I agree completely... 227cc & 235cc heads would be way too much for that combo.

Re: Which AFR's would be best?

i agree with staying away from the 1.7 rockers...as far as the head selection...that these guys are talkin about....i personally would go below 210.... im runnin 200 in a 355 and love the way they react.... "to each his own!"

Re: Which AFR's would be best?

227's are for WILD, 550+hp, 383+ci motors. the 235's should not be used under 400 cubes unless you are spinning to 9k.

depends on your goals for your engine. all out drag racer, 210's. street/strip, 195's.

Re: Which AFR's would be best?

I want this to be at least a 500 hp/500 ft.lbs. at the flywheel that was why i was leaning towards the 227's. Im not entirely concerned with street manners, Seeing how im going to throw in a 4000 stall in front of a bult 700r4. I want to be in the high 11's and have TONS of torque all said and done.

Re: Which AFR's would be best?

if you want torque, stay away from the 227 and 235. the bigger the runner, the less lowend torque and more highend hp. CHP made 615hp with the 195 eliminators. the 210's will be more than sufficient.

Re: Which AFR's would be best?

the 210's are a nasty head....but even the 195's will do what your lookin for with no problem!!.. As far as throwing a 4000 stall in front of a 700r....good luck..hahaha those tranny's are about as stout as a wet noodle, for what your lookin to do with this car you should look into a th350 or 400

The only problem with a th350 or 400 there isnt a 4th gear. I will be taking this on a few road trips out of state so i dont want to be doing 4k at 75mph. I plan on running 3.73 gears in the rear.

Re: Which AFR's would be best?

Everyone I know who went bigger never regretted it. IIRC, the 227cc heads have their own headaches with valvetrain components, but skip the 195cc and go for at least the 210cc. You won't regret going bigger. I've never met anyone who has.
