Stalling while idling

Hi, I have a 91 trans am with a 305 tpi / automatic that is having a bit trouble idling. at first the car was only fumbling after driving on the highway. once i had got of an exit and hit a stop sign or red light the car would just "phh phh" and die. I had noticed that the temp was reaching quite high (250 degrees) due to the fact the fan was not working and the coolant seriosuly needs to be flushed. So i got the fan running, replaced the fuel filter, swapped out the tps sensor with a new one and also changed out the map sensor too. The coolant flush is coming tomorrow. Now after those repairs were done, the car temp is much better, but the car is having even more trouble now. To explain what i am expierencing is that at red lights the cars will die if the car isnt kept at a high rev. also while driving, the car needs to be at a rpm higher then 1800+ or it really does sound like crap ( backfiring, fumbling, no performance). so basically the more i keep driving the worse it seems to get. what could be the issue? i really am stumped.
