I have been hearing a lot about seafoam lately but I don't know much about it. What does it do for the motor? Where do you put it? Where can you buy it?

seafoam, the ultimate smoke screen. its like hella smoke its awesome never done it, but ive seen videos, you suck it in the engine through the brake booster vacuum line.

all seafoam really is, is a solvent that is safe for seals... sorta... can be added to any fluid in the car except coolant and then drained shortly after... its affects on a WELL MAINTAINED vehicle are negligible...

adding seafoam can cause oil leaks...

 

I just poured half of it straight down the throat of the carb. Then I hooked it up to a vacuum line on the carb and used the other half. Right before the can was empty, I let the motor stall out while sucking up the Seafoam, that way it could sit in the intake, on the valves and pistons and really dissolve the gunk. Let it sit for a half hour or so then started it up...with a lot of smoke lol. It smoked lightly for about 30 mins after, but it stopped after driving around for a bit and getting everything up to temp. No issues, motor ran better all around after.

I wouldn't recommend putting it in the gas tank or oil...I've never done it and everyone I've talked to agrees. In my opinion, it works best the way I used it.

 

It makes a lot of smoke because it's mostly oil (along with alcohol and naphtha).

if you put it in a clean motor it doesn't smoke at all...

the description a couple posts above is the best 1. it works wonders on an aged motor thats never seen a upper intake cleaner.

 

I have used in my bike it ruined the carb my brother used it and ruined his fuel pump. If you really want it autozone or other parts place carries it.

 

I just used it. Didn't get much smoke.
2 weeks later I ran a compression test and found that I had a bad cylinder. Pulled the head and found that the seafoam didn't do a friggin thing. This was on a project car that I had and it had not been maintained very well.

 

Another good cleaner, which of course you can't get here in CA anymore, was GM top engine cleaner.

 

Now THAT was some good stuff. I was able to get some here in Illinois 2 years ago.

 

also there is this fancy stuff called water... comes out of many taps across the US and canada...

while it wont clean the throttle body well it will clean the cylinders extremely well

DIRECTIONS: start engine let it warm up remove anything before the throttle body then mist the water in large quantitys through the blades dont stall the engine here but give it enough to make the engine complain about it...

i have used that for decades. all that super heated steam just breaks up anything not part of the engine. it will be clean after than.
