Where is number 1 on a TBI/TPI small cap distributor?

I have two different caps with not much of a reference point. The one in this pic, just says 8 right in the middle.

I installed the distributer as shown where my finger is pointing. Is this number 1 firing? I position the rotor where I think it should be. Is this correct.

I know they can be made to work any way. I just need to know if this is the correct position for when I drop it in after finding TDC? (this is a spare) I currently have another dizzy in there.

This is in my truck with TBI . I installed a engine and am having a big problem getting the timing right. Once I know for sure where number 1 is, I can route the wires correctly based on the firing order no problem.

Please pay no mind to the condition of the cap and rotor. I have new ones on it.

number one can be any of those terminals not important which one only thing you need to know is which one of those terminals the rotor points at when its should be fireing 1 to start routeing your plug wires

Turn the motor around to TDC, number 1 firing position. Whichever terminal the rotor is pointing at is number 1.
