NEED HELP What can i do to a 305 for some power?

I have a 91 RS 5 speed, 305, I dont want anything drastic. Just a bit more power, I have been told to add Vortec Heads L30, Cam and pistons. Does anyone have suggestions I have about 1500 to drop into the engine. HELP!

search is your friend. plenty of buildups.

heads, vortec 305 heads are poo. either go with 350 vortecs from 96 newer vortec 350s and use them with 350 head gasket, id keep the stock pistons and leave that be. upgrade intake and cam.

better heads would be the 305 SR torquers from world... they are 175cc heads for the 305... add that and a good intake and cam (comp or crane) and u can squeeze 50hp outa that thing with a good exhaust. chevy high performance basically did wat i just said a while back... gained 50hp and 30ftlbs or something... edelbrock exhaust (headers/catback) crane cam and world SR 305 heads. on a 305 TBI

make close to 300hp/tq and your gona destroy that 5 speed anyways. id look into building up other things like your rear... add posi and some 3.42 gears. then worry about the engine... wats the point of having 240hp if you cant get it to the ground cuz ur spining your one wheel with your lame 2.73s.

World's 305 torquers are far inferior to real Vortec 350 heads. I've personally dyno'ed 305s both ways. Leave your pistons alone, have the vortecs milled to 54cc, get the TBI Vortec intake from Scoggin Dickey, install a cam, and spend the remainder on headers, exhaust, and a better axle ratio.
