check engine light on due to water temp sensor
Well my factory water temp guage was not working so i bought an AutoMeter Cobalt guage to match the rest of the guages in my car.
I had to install the AutoMeter temp sensor in place of the factory one which means that the CEL is on because the plug has nothing there to plug into.
Any ideas on how to turn the CEL off? I would like it to be as a warning rather than it always being on.

yea, put the temp sensor back into your manifold and try removing the temp SENDER in your drivers side head. thats the one for the guages. is between cylinder 1 and 3 and has a sing green wire plugged into it. THATS where your aftermarket sensor goes, and chances are you guage is fine, its just the sender that was bad

i disconnected the sensor that is in the front of the intake manifold right near the alternator.
Screws into the manifold at an angle that slightly points towards the drivers side of the car rather that going straight back towards the rear.

yes, thats the one for your ecm. im suprised the engine isnt running like s**t lol. put that one BACK in, and plug it back int, on your driver side head between cylinders 1 and 3 under the manifold is another sensor, its the one for your gauges, put your new sensor there and plug the gree wire and your new guage wire into it.

That's the one I thought but I didn't think it would throw a code.
I was under the impression that it was just an informational sensor. Without would just cause the ecm to default to a preset value.

Re: check engine light on due to water temp sensor
YOUR ecm takes information from the sensor in your manifold when its running 24/7 it is used to turn on your Cooling fans if you have tpi, it is used to trim your fuel values and for cold start enrichment, without it your computer will default and set the CEL, and your MPG's will plummet

Re: check engine light on due to water temp sensor
so that could be the reason i get 9mpg cruising on the freeway? LMFAO
I will have to change it this weekend.
So i should plug the green wire as well as the autometer wire into my autometer sender unit?
