TPI car falling on it's face
Alright, i am getting closer to the solution here. I have a 91' TA TPI. Car runs fine when it is first started and driven. Like in the morning. Ok. after about 20 min. it chokes like hell when you accelerate! I have ohmed all injectors, they are fine. Also, no codes. No vacum leaks either. I am suspecting it to still be a bad sensor, or even the pickup coil in the distributor. Is there a way to test pickup coil for resistance? Anyway, the other day i tried the resistor thing on some of the sensors.. I used a resistor in the air temp sensor under the plenum and it ran fine , no codes. (Idea is to use a resistor and temporarily trick the computer to think the intake air is colder than it really is, which will raise timing and richen fuel mixture.) Ok, so it did. Now , at the same time i used a resistor in the knock sensor(to basically bypass it). Ok, that worked too. Timing actually felt a little too high. Did not choke on acceleration anymore though. Well, at this point i grew afraid of what they call silent engine knock and so i reconnected my knock sensor. I did leave the air intake sensor with the resistor in it. Drove the car again. So far so good. Then all of a sudden, i suspect the computer caught on to the change in the air intake temp sensor and then the car started really really choking when i got on it! Worse than ever. Couldn't even pass a vw bug.wtf? Ok, so i put everything back to normal and the car ran great again for a while. WTF could be going on here. Bad knock sensor?
