Need Advice on Choosing Ignition System

I need a new ignition system for my carbed, non-computer Camaro.

I want a new distributor with an ignition box. I'd like to get a Mallory
Unilite since I've had good luck with them before, but I'm not sure how big they are and if they will clear the cowl on the 350 that's sitting in the engine bay right now (stock distributor only comes out if you remove cap first...lame).

As for the box, all I want is something that will hook up with no hassle to the distributor and coil (will get a separate coil). The Box Definately needs to have start-up ignition retarding. My current starter has so much trouble cranking my engine what I have my idle timing at 15 degrees advance, that the only way to start my car is to back the timing to about 0 degrees, start it up, then turn it back to 15 where it runs right. A box that would retard timing from a signal from the lock cylinder when I go to start the car would be amazing.

Pretty much open to any ideas, proven combos, etc. that meet these requirements.

Thanks,
Oliver

Re: Need Advice on Choosing Ignition System

i would suggest MSD. it is a little more exspensive but you will have no problems.

i had accel a while back. my buddy told me not to get accel bcuz he had problems. however i could afford the msd at the time. so i got accel. and let me tell you. i was replacing their coils quit a bit. at fifty bucks a pop each time. for some reason the coils didnt last long, i checked everything which was all fine.

so eventually i saved up and got msd. havent had one single problem.

hope my story helped you... ha
