Still having a high idel problem!!
Hey guys!! Well I thought that this would just go away but it hasent and Im out of options and need help from everyone to make shure I cover everything that affects idel. What the car is doing is, first not throwing any codes at all just the good ol 12
. and when I slow way down or pull to a red light or when I first start the car back up it acts like its still cold and goes to the high idel for a few sec's then perfect idel. When I stop at a red light it stays at a high Idel for a few seconds (probly 10 to 20 seconds) but after a few sec's it goes back to perfect. It starts pefect in the mornings high idel for a while then after it warms up some it idels perfect. But everytime I pull in to get gas and start it back it goes to the high idel then imideatly starts to slowly come back to normal
. I have changed the idel sensor with 2 others I had lying around and exactly the same thing with each one. So Im starting now to look at the various sensors that control the idel solinoid but just want everyones input b4 I start changing because thers alot that tie to the idel and that would get expensive. But with no codes its hard to pinpoint. Any Ideas anyone????????????????

Probably not the issue, but when I was having idle issues, turned out to be a sticky butterfly in the intake. Make sure its nice and clean. I also had problems with a loose nut on the throttle.

my car is doing a similar thing. I have codes 15 and 21 coming up though. I have replaced multiple sensors and checked everything i can think of. still not fixed. Let me know if you ever figure yours out. Hard to tell where to start without any codes though.

Random Shot in the dark.....
Have you had a look at the vacuum check valve for the brake booster? Do your power brakes work as they should?

Re: Still having a high idel problem!!
Yea good brakes, no vac leaks anywhere. Also one more thing I forgot about it def has to be some kind of sensor problem and not mechanical because I can let the solinoid close up all the way and unplug it and the idel stays low the whole time I drive it, so that eliminats any mechanical problems. Exactly what sensors(that wont show a code) tell the iac to move? I guess Ill just have to start replacing thoes. It might just be the temp sensor for the computer or a bad computer itself, somewhere in that area has to be the problem, lets all put our heads to that and see what we come up with. I know with all the intelligent 3rd gen guys on this bord we can figure this out. Keep the suggestions coming no matter how crazy or off base they might seem I wont disregard any!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Still having a high idel problem!!
if it makes you feel better, your original post explains my exact situation i havent been able to fix. that brake booster vacuum line actually gives me an idea to replace the valve. i've set my tps to .54 volts and the sensor works great as i tested it. i have a backup spring to fully close the throttle completely minus the stop screw to keep it open partially. i want to replace the iac next but it's expensive. no vac leaks i'm aware of. i have no egr on my stealth ram intake. replaced the coolant temp sensor next to thermostat and i'm running a 180 or so. no codes, and it's a random high idle/perfect idle.

Re: Still having a high idel problem!!
Well good. Maybe together we could figure something out. Yours wants to idel high everytime you start it like after you pull in to get gas and at red lites and anytime you slow to like 10 or 15 mph? When did yours start that ****. After any kind of mod? Iv noticed mine started right after I had the plenum off and ground the egr walls out. Also do you have a B&M shifter? They include a relay and 2 switches with the consol model for our 3rd gens. The relay is supposed to make it idel differently in park and netural.Post back and lets get to the bottom of this. I am going to fix this because it killes me to have everyone looking at my car at a gas station and fire it up and it does that high idel **** lol....They sound too good for that to happen!!!!!

Re: Still having a high idel problem!!
This is where Im at as bad as I hate to say it but theres a $70 sensor its the cold start switch napa sells them and I think it might be the one that is the culprit because thats mor like what mine seems to be doing, staying in cold mode. Im pretty shure but someone correct me if im wrong, that the cold start switch triggers the cold start injector and also works in conjunction with the computer temp switch. Ill try the ecm temp switch first then maybe the iat temp switch then the $70 cold start. Although it starts good when cold and iv tested my 9th injector I though I was having trouble with it b4 but it was working fine. Matt does yours have the 9th cold start injector? I know they eliminated it on later models and just let the primary injectors fire all at once for cold start.
