305 Vortec heads

i found a set of 96 305 vortec heads for cheap, and im currently running a 89 305 with the stock heads, but i want to get some add ons as i build up my 350, so im doing everything that is swapable to the 350 from the 305 first (gotta have some fun) but alot of people are saying stay away from the 305 vortecs, and others say go for it. Im going to pick them up but whats peoples 2 cents are on them.

planning on
305 vortec heads, roller rockers, beehive springs, mild port, valves
350 roller with lt4 cam
4 barrel carb with rpm air gap

ps the 350 is not going in till i can afford an aftermarket trans my t-5 wont hold up. ps.ps any where that i can get that upgraded to stand to a 350?

Re: 305 Vortec heads

I have no experiance with the 305 vortecs.I can however tell you that with their 58cc chambers,a 350 will require one hell of a dish to arrive at a realistic compression ratio.Just something to keep in mind, the few dollars you save on the heads now, could end up costing you way more if you have to get a set of oddball pistons later.

Re: 305 Vortec heads

Eagle do kits with -12cc Keith Black pistons. With a 58cc head, zero deck and .039" (8cc) gasket, yields around 10.2:1 comp, so you shouldn't need custom pistons.
