snake camera to find piston numbers

has anybody ever used one of those snake cameras to get the part number off their pistons. i want to order my heads and hopefully get the job done in one day but lost the build sheet so the only other way would be pull it down then order the heads. please help the milwakee one was just a tiny bit too fat.

Chances are there's enough carbon on top if the pistons that you won't see any numbers. I've never seen part numbers on top of the pistons. Only oversize numbers.

Why do you need piston numbers to order heads?

i have forged internals and dont know what chamber heads to get.i have an eagle rotating assemly stock specs but i forgot what pistons were used i know i have 4 valve reliefs in them and the motor has like 3500 miles on it there souldnt be any carbon on it........i thought i needed to know the pistons to decide what chambers would make a good street car compression

Re: snake camera to find piston numbers

If you have 4 valve reliefs, they're probably just a flat top piston.

FWIW, the builder that did mine didn't give me a build sheet but I was able to read them through the spark plug holes when it was new and on the engine stand.

Re: snake camera to find piston numbers

what your talking about is a bore scope.
the newer bore scopes are actually small cameras and have a screen.

you can drop by a shop and ask if they have one and how much they would charge.
i know some aftermarket pistons have the part number stamped on the tops.
normally its not stamped very deep, so depending on how clean the motor is
running, at 3500 miles you may or may not be able to read any numbers on the pistons tops. i feel there will probably be enough of a build up to cover any numbers. a decarb treatment may help.
either way, you should expect to pay for it whether they can read the numbers or not.
