Cam Companys Advertised Duration
Cam Companys Advertised Duration
Well im about to get a cam for my 406 small block chevy and im either going with a comp cam XR286R or a Lunati Voodoo 60133 and the specs for these cams are (XR286) Adv dur. 286/292 -- dur. @ 0.050 248/254 -- Lift .576/.582
(60133 Voodoo) Adv dur. 279/285 -- dur. @ 0.050 249/255 -- Lift .585/.600
The reason im confused is cause the lunati has more duration at .050 but less Adv duration and Advertised duration plays a roll in DCR so i need to know is Adv duration anything to go by when it comes to cams?

Re: Cam Companys Advertised Duration
The .050 standard is a better way because that's when meaningful flow occurs, below that there's very little action. However the seat durations do have a big role to play when it comes to overlap pumping losses and so on. The cam w/ shorter seat dur. but longer @ .050 has a more aggressive profile. Seat dur. is usually rated @ .006 lift or thereabouts (it can be different between manufacturers)
