engine light confusion
I need ideas. My 87 Z-28, 305 tpi, auto, TPS 58 mm. Just put new water pump on. Take it to get inspection, no problem. Leaving the parking lot it stumbled, the E light came on, and it quit. Restarted it, the light stayed on, it stumbled a little, but ran home fine. Tried to check codes, but the light comes on immediatley when you turn key to on, doesn't flash, doesn't do anything. This is starting to annoy me, any ideas?

Re: engine light confusion
did you jump the correct pins on the data link connector?? I believe it's the top two right pins....connect them with paper clip or wire, then turn on your ignition. The dash light will flash each code three times....starting with 12. 12 should always be in your system....and it ends with 12 as well.

Yes, I used the code puller I bought a few years ago, It also does dual duty for Saturn brakes antilock and GM transmission codes. It has always worked in the past. I did try the old paperclip deal as well. No dice. Last night, I drove it far a while, but I didn't let it warm up, I just got in and left. Light stayed on till I got to gas station. After fueling, it stayed off when I cranked back up, but it loped really hard at idle like it had a 3/4 race cam in it, but it is still the stock cam. After 5 minutes of rough idling, it ran smooth all the way home. This morning, back to the dam light again. MAF? EGR solenoid? Maybe the whole ECM? Argggh!
