Re: REALLY noticeable skip

what could it be?
Weak coil, damaged rotor or distributor cap, poor ignition pulses from the reluctor (shouldn't be a problem on a new distributor, but stranger things have happened), failing secondary wires (especially "designer" wires), failing or damaged spark plugs (same as above with "designer" plugs), sticking or leaking valves, damaged cam lobes, bent pushrods, blown head gaskets, etc.

If a compression or cylinder leakage test indicates no mechanical problems, the culprit is likely ignition. TBI doesn't exhibit the same kind of symptoms with apparent fuel related misfires as TPI systems.

Re: REALLY noticeable skip

One or more of the wires could be on the wrong plugs

Did it have the miss before you replaced the distributor or after?
