Re: Cut Wires

Don't remove any wires until you know exactly what they're for. IDK gauging sizes but there are a few things that use Brown, some use Pink, some use Yellow etc.
Here's a basic stereo ---

RT FRT SPKR......LT GREEN & DK GREEN
LFT FRT SPKR....TAN & GREY

LFT REAR SPKR...BROWN & YELLOW
RT REAR SPKR....DRK BLUE & LT BLUE

From Radio Display On Signal......YELLOW to 10amp RADIO fuse ***HOT IN ACC OR RUN***

From Radio Clock Power............ORANGE to 20amp acc fuse ***HOT AT ALL TIMES***

From Radio On Output..............PINK to POWER ANTENNA
From Radio DIM SIGNAL............BROWN to INTERIOR LIGHTS SYSTEM
From Radio PANEL LIGHT..........GREY to INTERIOR LIGHTS SYSTEM
(edit)
These wires are ALL SOLID color. NO STRIPES NO DOTS NO DASHES

Re: Cut Wires

If you are going to install a stereo, an after market kit from WalMart, AutoZone, etc. will have the diagram of what you connect into the kit harness. If I can do it, any one can!! LOL!!

I got the wire info from a Haynes Manual---Not exactly the best source but it was what I needed to get my stereo in & working.

I also have the info for Delco-Bose System that was in some 3rd gens.

I'm sure when the GURUS get time some of them will be able to help in much more detail.

Best of luck to ya!!

Re: Cut Wires

Definately radio wiring harness. Unfortunately this is not that uncommon on our cars. People love to cut the radios out rather than unplugging the connectors from the back of the radio. Mine looked the same when I bought my car. If you go with another 3rd gen radio or a 4th gen you can simply match up the colors and splice in the connectors for your radio, takes about 20 minutes. If you go with an aftermarket unit you'll have to check the wiring diagram. Don't panic though, it looks worse than it is!
