Summit Aluminum Oil Pan
My oil pan was leaking and when I was cleaning the surfaces to put on a new gasket I noticed that it wasn't true so I ordered a Summit Cast Aluminum Oil Pan and received it today. It came with the front gasket where the pan meets the timing cover and a note that said to use the thin front gaskets on it. Does anyone know if my chrome timing chain cover will mate up properly for a good seal? Also, I already purchased the FelPro performance gasket before the oil pan, will this work on the aluminum pan?

If you have the thick gasket the pan may crack. Use what you're supposed to be using.

The timing cover should fit fine, and will seal as well as anything chromed ever does.

Re: Summit Aluminum Oil Pan
Just to end this thread. I went to use the recommended gasket and bought the others that it said to use. The quality of the summit oil pan was so bad I am sending it back and have to get another one. The gaskets didn't fit correctly. The back rubber gasket was smaller than the cut out on the pan. There was metal on the gasket surface that hadn't been smoothed out. DON'T BUY ONE!

Re: Summit Aluminum Oil Pan
I have to second not buying a summit pan. I had the OEM style replacement 4qt that was just prettier and time wise cheaper than cleaning up the stock pan. Worked good until I had to pull it to fix a leak I caused in the timing cover/oil pan snout area, now it leaks profusely- even with a one piece gasket. POS.
I did get 2 good years out of it though, but just be warned it's a 1 time use pan. I'm going with a Canton when I lift her up again to replace the pan.
