87 Camaro Engine Specs Help

I am looking at a 1987 Z28 with a 350 Carb. engine and has a it bored 60 over with a 3/4 cam just wondering if that is a good set up and he says it has 400+ hp wich i dont think so. its a nice car. Have a pic of the engine to kind of hard to see.

"3/4 cam" means nothing.

It'll depend what heads it has, what the cam really is, what the compression ratio is...

I bet the term "3/4 cam" came from back in the late 1950's when there were probably only a handfull of "hot rod" cams available for racing and street rodding. The most radical one or two would be for racing and there may have been another one or two for hot rodding, these being only "3/4's" as radical as the racing cam and thus being tame enough to idle low enough to be usable on a street car. In these days a drag, circle track or road racer would probably all use the same "race" grind. A far cry from todays numerous and specialized cam selections.

I'm an old greybeard, and in getting way too close to 40 years of playing around with cars and engines, I've never ever seen or heard of any actual specs on a "3/4 race" cam. It's kind of an old wives tale or an urban legend sort of thing. whenever I hear this I think that at best the guy is making an opinionated generalization about a decent cam for the street, and can actually give cam lobe lift and duration numbers, or at worst, it's coming from a dufus bullshitter.

I guess I'm kind of picky. I don't even look at used ads for Edelbrock performer intake manifolds. If I want a good used street manifold for a carbed engine versus a (medium evel) race manifold like a Victor Jr., I'll only look for an RPM Air Gap. To me it's worth it to pay a little more for the air flow and better performance of the Air Gap while not going all out for a single plane manifold.
