Could my water pump be bad?

Im having and over heating issue, first my fan isnt running anymore i need to solve that, but I replaced my thermostat as well and when it hits 195 it dies down about 5 degree's telling me that the valve opened, but then it shoots up again and doesnt go back down. This is leading me to believe that the water pump isnt circulating the cooler water. Could this be the case? Any suggestions?

Re: Could my water pump be bad?

possible, but very unlikely-the impellers are pretty
secure on chevy waterpumps,so as long as the pulley
is turning it should be pumping.

I feel the same way never had one fail before, but I dont know what else could be causing it to over heat so bad.

so are you saying that your car overheated prior to replacing the thermostat? if your car was overheating prior, it could be a timing issue and or a faulty radiator, there of course are other internal possibilities...

your Radiator could be plugged... what you could do is siphon enough coolant from the radiator, fire up the car and allowing the thermostat to open up, once the thermostat opens up you should see the coolant flow, if you don't see the coolant flow, then you radiator could be plugged...
