Re: Loose steering?
First thing to check is the rag joint. If that isn't the problem check the center drag link and you can try adjusting the steering gear. Instructions on adjusting the steering gear can be easily found with a search.

Re: Loose steering?
have someone turn the wheel back and forth (engine off) while you look to see where it's loose.

Not difficult to do with basic hand tools. The car would require alignment afterward.

Re: Loose steering?
I have the same problem. However, the car responds immediately to the left and has the play on the right. I haven't had a chance to get a friend to turn the wheel so I can try to locate the play.

Not broken and worn out are two different things, I think. Here's a link to show you what's what:

Re: Loose steering?
Is it not only turning the steering wheel that haws a problem? But also able to tilt up & down, without touching the tilt lever?
If so......https://www.thirdgen.org/steeringcolumn
Fairly complex job with specialized tool, so I paid to have mine done. $100 later & it was better than new!
