There are MANY places to use for machine work. I have had good luck with City Motor Supply in Dallas. You can have a "claimer" engine built for not much coin. One of the guys I work with went on my suggestion and they built him a 357 shortblock. He bolted a set of Vortecs to it, along with a nice little Crower cam, Edelbrock Proflow EFI setup, and 1 5/8" primary Hooker headers. He put it all in a 1971 C20 truck with a 2,600 stalled 700r4 in it. The truck is an absolute BEAST as soon as the throttle is nudged to the floor, but mild enough to cruise around town in bumper to bumper traffic.

Re: 305 Budget Rebuild

Oh yeah I know about city motor, thats were I am going next week to get my heads for my 305. I need to be driving the can not looking at it LOL.
I was just wondering what you paid to have them do the work. it looks like you got out of there for well under 200 bucks. I am going to be doing the same thing. I found a late 70's 350 with double hump heads with 2.02/1.60 valves what I dont know is if it is a 4 bolt block or not. He is up in Denton and drives down 35e on his way to work so I am tring to get him to go dowm on his price because I dont want the th 350 tranny. that way I can meet him on the highway to get it and not drive all the way to Denton.

Wow all of 15 miles...I drive from Grapevine through Lewisville to 35 north of Denton nearly every friday night.

There is NOTHING special about that late 70s 350 and magical double hump heads. You don't want either. I have 3 roller cam 350 bare blocks sitting in my garage. ROLLER CAM BLOCK + VORTEC HEADS = MUCH MORE POTENTIAL for HP and a cheaper build. You could take a 350 roller cam block, clearance for a stroker, buy a 383 rotating assembly, add on a set of Vortecs, and make 400+ HP with 500 ft/lbs of torque for under $2500.

Yeah all of 15 miles thats from here to lewisville, more like 35 or so from were I am. I guess I will just carry it on my back from there to here. And I never said special, I said a good deal. The whole thing for 300 bucks. I am on a buget also, with a wife and a kid I need to get this done on the cheap. They need to eat and have a home more than I need to build a hot rod, So for 2500 dollars I can build 2 motors and have a spare. No need to be sarcastic bud.
