Head gasket question
Built a 350 .040 over, flat tappet cam engine, with World Sportsman II heads (untouched, no port work). These are the head gaskets that I used http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FP...s/?prefilter=1 .
Did i f*ck up and use the wrong head gaskets?? All i wanted was a slightly thinner gasket (for obvious reasons) that would accomodate the slightly larger bore.
The car runs real cool, and takes a while to warm up, but im running a larger after market radiator, and have a stock 305 TBI elec fan with a trans cooler fan. If i start it up and let it run for like 2 or 3 minutes and shut it off i can hear the coolant like bubble (like there air pockets even though the engines been run plenty to get that out) however once the car has started to reach normal operating temp and i shut it off, it wont make any bubbling sound??

Re: Head gasket question
do you have an overflow reservoir? or if you do does it have coolant in it? if not it may have pulled some air in. i hope your block isnt 0 decked with that head gasket. you need a min 0.030" between the piston and head.

Yes, I have a stock reservior, and its got plenty of water in it. No the bolck was just cleaned up, didn't need anything just a a slight hone to clean up the walls if i remember correctly and that was it.

Re: Head gasket question
Thanks guys! I appreciate the quick response gives me piece of mind!!!
I called their tech line and guess they're okay but i was warned about making sure the deck hasn't been zero'ed out because they are only .015 thickness compressed. This worries me because i have to adjust my valves sometime this week and adjusting 1.6 RR is not the same as stamped steel 1.5s. I tried all afternoon yesterday and they all seemed way to loose, but im worried bout going anything past 1/2 turn IR my PtV clearance is that tight with these head gaskets....

Re: Head gasket question
you'd be surprised how much valve piston clearance you may have. i 0 decked my block and still have .200".

Re: Head gasket question
I didn;t think i'd have real clearence issues considering my cam http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-12-365-4/ but i panic'd. Adjusted the valves using this method http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/te...nfo/index.html so we'll see how this works out.

Re: Head gasket question
Head gaskets are made with a bit of clearance around the cylinder bore, sufficient to allow for overbore applications. Match the gasket to the block by laying it down on the dowels. You should see deck surface around each cylinder with the gasket laid flush against it. If so then youll be fine.
