Re: Camshaft Perfection

Your stock valve springs are not rated for that lift.

Also, your guides may need to be turned down to accomodate the increased travel, though I'm not 100% on whether or not thatwill be necessary.

Yes damage, it is not the right cam for your LO3, it is flat tapped, it has too much lift and duration.
You need a hydraulic roller cam (wich is better). LT1/LT4 (not hot) cam is already plenty for your 187 heads. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tbi/...-ultimate.html

For the sound you need to look for an aftermarket exhaust, the cam is not going to change it much.

Re: Camshaft Perfection

Oh, NO! That cam is MUCH TOO BIG for your engine. Also, it's a decades old 30+30 design, hence nostalgia. Barely idle, no brakes, forget emissions, virtually no low end, power won't come on until way up the band.

Awful choice, you'd hate it.

Re: Camshaft Perfection

Start with the exhaust, leave the cam alone for now. You'll never get a racey, lopey idle with the TBI system anyway. Besides, sound doesn't really matter. Only acceleration matters. You'll look awfully dumb if you drive a car that sounds fast but loses every race to every Honda. Better to sound stock but be able to slay Vipers.

everyone has a different opinion on what they want, speed doesnt matter to everyone so dont push your ideals onto them

but in all seriousness, i agree with atilla, your car isnt going to sound good until you have an exhaust, and if you do the exhaust right youll be happy with the sound
