Oil loss? 1/2 quart in a month?!
Hey guys, My car has 171000 km on it, I use Mobile 1 10w30 (I get a discount so it's dirt cheap) I have noticed this year, really badly my valve seals leak when I first fire it up.. Could they be leaking all the time causing this mass of oil to be lost?

How many miles did you drive? According to GM using a quart every 700-1000 miles is "normal". Yes bad valve seals will cause oil consumption. You could change the valve seals and it will help for a while but most likely the valve guides are worn and you probably need to rebuild the heads. Some thicker oil would slow the consumption down some.
If your valve seals leak when you start it up 1/2 a quart is normal.

Don't use thicker oil. It treats the symptom and makes the problem worse.
If you think the problem is the valve seals, replace them and see if it helps. If you don't wanna rip the head apart, just keep your oil level at the correct level.
