Engine died while coasting
Ok,
The car is still new to me and I have done little to it other than changing the heater core. 92 firebird v6 auto 25,700 miles.
So I am driving down a long hill to a bridge and the engine dies rpms 0 and all electric is still on. I start to put in in Neutral to start motor and see the rpms pop up some and its running again. It does this again fairly soon but this time does require shifting to N to restart.
Seems to run ok when accelerating. Only once did I detect a skip or hiccup but then it smoothed out.
It died once on the way home when coasting downhill to an intersection but it ran fine after that. It was a little tough to start after the first incident.
I just topped off premium gas yesterday with additech added at the pump. (It's been rainy today.)
Can anyone give me suggestions for my next steps from here?
thanks!
Charles

ok i might have cleared the codes by accident on my first attempt because when i got it to work i only have 12s repeating. I am going to try to make it happen again and recheck.

Re: Engine died while coasting
Ok I think I found the problem. When I replaced the heater core I kept bumping into some wires that clip on to something with a gray plastic clip. I guess I knocked it loose.
It seemed to get worse as I drove around today until it finally just stopped. I tried to restart but it sounded like it wasnt hitting on all cylinders so I got out and checked the spark plug wires. When I did this I bumped that gray clip down on better and it cranked.
I drove to a safe place and clipped it down good and it seems to have stopped cutting out when coasting now.
So the short story is ....Doh!!
thanks for the error code link I did this and learned a lot. i will know what to do next time for the code.
