engine break in question...
I had to cut my detent cable on the new motor. I need to break in the motor for 20min a 2k rpm(in park obviously), will it be ok with no detent cable to increase the line pressure? thanks

Hmm... interesting question. If you wanted to be absolutely safe without knowing I'd say replace the detent cable beforehand. You may also want to ask in the transmission section of the board, or perhaps call a local transmission shop.
Re: engine break in question...
I thought that cable is just for the kick down when you floor it so the trans will downshift. everyone I know has always called it the kick down cable.
or are you talking about something else?

Makes ure you use some break in lube in the oil.
Also, it's called a kickdown cable a lot of times but with the 700r4 it's called the Throttle Valve cable because it works a lot differently on the 700r4 than older transmissions. It controls line pressure in the trans and when it shifts and when it shifts down, and how hard it shifts. If you're at WOT at 6,000 RPMs and it shifts softly you're gonna burn up your clutches.
But anyway my take on it is... I'd just hook it up for the hell of it, since you cant, I woudln't worry about it. There's no load on the transmission. Theres no power transmitted through it. The clutches aren't going to be wearing (Which is the main concern)... So unless Im WAY off base (which is very possible. I went to a T56 just to get away from this crap) I think you'll be fine.
