v belt to serpentine setup

i hate this v belt, it looks soo ugly. what will i need to convert my car to a 88-92 style serpinting setup. i know the 2 brakets, different alternator, a/c delete, and water pump. i just want to have it all vefore i start swaping over. is this a direct bolt on or will i need to fabricate and extend wires.

The following is a review of GM's kit, but you may find a lot of the info helpful (including the manual):

Re: v belt to serpentine setup

You'll need the P/S pump as well - they are different between the v-belt and the serp system.

IMO, the serp system is ugly as well - I always hated the huge brackets. I swapped to the 1/2 serp 1/2 vbelt like the 87 IROCs had. Used YOUR year alternator (with holes at 6 and 12 oclock), YOUR P/S pump, and YOUR water pump. Got Harm Bal pulley from JY, that has one large groove for serp belt, one small groove for vbelt. Used March P/S pump bracket and a Mr. Gasket alt bracket. Serp belt runs from crank to waterpump to alt, vbelt runs crank to p/s pump.

Since you already have a standard rotation w/p, and the right p/s pump for the March bracket, and the right alternator - maybe this would be an option for you - really cleans up the bay alot. The March p/s bracket (#20165) is $105 from Summit, and the Mr. Gasket alt bracket is $30 on the shelf at AZ.

If interested, PM me and I'll send ya a pic.

Re: v belt to serpentine setup

Here's one - this was before the March P/S bracket - I had a stock 1987 p/s pump bracket in there, but it is supposed to connect to the a/c and since I didn't have a/c, it was a bit wobbly, so I swapped to the March bracket. Don't have pics of the March bracket in place - just got it installed about a week ago - but I see if I can get some more pics Sunday. The March bracket places the p/s pump in almost the identical place, so you still get an idea of what this setup looks like.

In a few weeks, I might drop the extra money to get the March alt bracket too - I think it lowers the alternator down some, so it's not sticking up so high.

Re: v belt to serpentine setup

I have the complete serp setup from a '91 LO3, but it's all in a big box in my basement.

Re: v belt to serpentine setup

march has a lot of nice set-ups wish i could afford one.

i had v-belt too. i now have factory serp. i think the serp looks way better.
i never liked the cheapo steel brackets, that bend all over the place. went through a few cause they kept bending, and i never had good luck with them lining up perfect. i picked up a set from someone on tgo.. best buy yet. no one realy asks much for them.. mine came with the water pump all the brakets, air cond. smog pump( didnt use it though) alt. and bolts and belt for 150. i like the fact that i dont have to adjust a couple things, with the serp its just a tensioner. much easier

thats a cool idea with runnin both the serp and the vbelt, kind of defeats the
purpose of havin a one belt set-up though.. but still ,, a unique way of doin it

still wish i had the money for a march setup, what i have will do
