Looking for pointers: Swap Distributor Cap, Rotor, and Coil 86 305 TPI
Hello,
I purchased an MSD distributor cap and rotor, and HEI coil, and I want to install them today. I have never done one of these before. Any pointers from the Forum?
* Also, will I need to reset the timing, or should I attempt to start the car with the same timing settings as before the replacement?
Do share your thoughts. Thanks for reading my post!

Welcome to TGO
Unless you rotate the dist, you wont have to change the timing. The cap and rotor are removed from above without changing the timing
An in-cap coil simply bolts on. A divorced coil will require the mounting rivets to be ground off. New coils almost always come with new bolts to secure to the mount
Once you are done be sure to double check that the firing order is correct. If if start it and it runs terrible, chances are some wires are out of order. Use masking tape and a sharpie before pulling the wires off if in doubt
