Gas pedal a little sticky at times?

I'll be driving around, all is good, I'm happy, just cruising, no issues, and then SOMETIMES, when I come to a stop at a red light, my car will stay reving at say 2 grand or 1500rpm or whatever while im in neutral with my foot off the gas idling. Anyone know what the issue is and how to fix it? Whenever it happens, it usually goes down back to normal after a little bit but if I just rev the car once it goes to normal. This a issue I should worry about?

Throttle sticking most likely. Spray some carb cleaner around throttle and spray around the butterflies while opening and closing it by hand.

Re: Gas pedal a little sticky at times?

also check the condition of your throttle cable, I had mine start fraying on my old impala and it did the same thing then one day it tried to stay wide open on me because the fray got bad enough

When TB shaft worn, the butterflies can close off center and jam up on the bores.Need a tap to get them to seat properly

Re: Gas pedal a little sticky at times?

Does your car have a carb or tbi? My carbed 86 IROC had a throttle sticking problem. I found out after some investigating that the air cleaner pan was bumping against the linkage, causing it to stick. I had to shut off the engine when it happened. I didn't call 911 either.

Re: Gas pedal a little sticky at times?

Its carb but I think I've fixed the problem just by spraying it, i also cut the spring and made it shorter, just re bent the hook. I havn't had any issues in a couple days and I usually had it everytime I drove.
