Odometer works but trip meter doesn't.

I got a 1988 Camaro with the 305 and 5 speed manual trans. The odometer works great, and keeps miles like it should. The trip meter on the other hand is stuck at all zeros and won't go up. If you hit the reset switch the numbers turn a little bit, then when you let go they return to zeros. Any solutions?

There's a thread about how to fix it in the FAQ forum. There are plastic "hooks" that are supposed to hold the tumbler in place after being pushed past these hooks - the hooks are too small and break off. It isn't too hard of a fix, just need to wire the trip tumbler down. The main odometer is held in by the same type of hooks, but they are much bigger and less prone to breakage.

Another case of what's easy for the factory is a headache for the owner.

Great! Thanks! I'll give it a try. I checked the FAQ but didn't see this article, must of skipped over it. Thanks for the help though, it's greatly appreciated!

I followed that guide and it worked perfectly! I added a line of hot glue over the wire just for some added protection. I expect this fix to last the rest of the life of the car. Again, thanks!

Hey I've got a question.. Those two 10mm nuts that sit behind the various warning lights on the dash (beside the small light bulbs) are very difficult for me get off, I managed one but I can't get a grip on the other with my socket because it's tucked so close in a corner. Did you have a special socket with thin sides? Or did you need to try some sort of special technique to get the socket to bite?

Room is a bit tight. I've always just pushed/wiggled the socket and extension a bit.
