Stuttering & Code 36

I have had a Check Engine Light on for years that turns out to be code 36 (MAF burnoff). The 86 Pontiac Trans Am, rebuilt 350 TPI, car always ran fine, even with the light on.

A few months ago the car starting stuttering at interstate speeds and under load (i.e. driving hard up a hill). I put on a reman MAF sensor in the past and the code stayed on and the problem did not change. Have replaced fuel filter, O2 sensor, cap, rotor, ECM, and ignition control module. Would a bad MAF Burnoff relay cause stuttering, sluggish acceleration, while driving, especially under load?

The shop wants me to get a reman ACDelco MAF, and not the Bosch. Since the light has been on for ~6 years and the car always ran well, I didn't think the MAF or relay was my new problem. Any ideas?

Re: Stuttering & Code 36

I replaced the MAF sensor burnoff relay. IN the process I found that the plug was full of grease. I don't know if it was supposed to be dielectric grease or something else. Cleaning that out the best I could seemed to help.... The light went off for like 10 starts until.....

it starting acting up on the highway and the light came back on. I have the MAF power sensor on order and will probably try to clean out the MAF burnoff relay better and be sure that the wiring connections are good and tight. It seems to certainly be the wiring....

If you figure anything out with yours let me know...
