HELLO THIRDGENNERS THIS IS MY FIRST POSTING SO HOPEFULLY U GUYS CAN HELP ME. i HAVE A 91 RS 305 TBI,HEADERS, MAGNAFLOW EXHAUST OTHER THAN THAT EVERYTHING IS STOCK. SO MY BROTHER AN I DROVE TO WALMART TODAY IN MY 91 AN IT DROVE AND RAN FINE. COME OUT OF WALMART START THE CAR AND ENGINE SHOOK ERRATICALLY AND WAS MASSIVE POWER LOSS LIKE ITS MISSING OR SOMETHING. DROVE IT HOME 30 MILES AFTER CHECKING PLUGWIRES,DIST., ANYTHING OUT OF ORDINARY AND DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING WRONG. DRIVING IT HOME IT WAS LIKE DRIVING A 4 CYL. ALL MY GAUGES WORK FINE EXCEPT TACH BOUNCES COUPLE HUNDRED RPM GOIN DOWN HIGHWAY AND COMPUTER HASNT PICKED ANYTHING UP YET. ANY SUGGESTIONS????? PLEASE HELP!!!!

 

ok so i found a plug that was loose on drivers side so i took it out didn't look fouled or anything, cleaned it an put it back in checked others anwere ok. started it and still the same for bout a minute and then out of nowhere ran smooth an normal,presume computer needed time to adjust. then itook it out an drove an was fine for bout 2 minutes than boom same thing started happening no power or acceleration and violent shaking an car wants to die at dead stop. any suggestions would be much appreciated

 

sounds like one of injectors intermittently stops working.should be able to confirm this on a tbi car by looking at them while car is acting up.

 

i'll have to try that tomorrow an see if an injector is acting up been bugging me all day can't figure it out kinda weird too that the computer isn't picking anything up thanks for the info i'll post tomorrow if i get it figured out or not

 

It could be a multitude of things, easiest first check is to borrow a known good working coil from another car or tbi truck. I've seen that exact scenario more than once.

 

was gonna try workin on it today but got a call an had a death in the family so have to postpone for a few days gon order a new ign. coil to start with hopefully thats all it is ill post back if it does it or not thanks for the info fellow thirdgenners

 

Sounds like a possible bad ecm. How do you know all of your plug wires are good?

 

Check the coil first. I would leave the ECM as a last resort.

 

tested all the wires with an ohmmeter an all are good. gonna order my new ign. coil today or first thing in the morning from summit. been lucky its rained here everyday here since my car has been down so i havent missed out on any nice days

 

Hey, ever considered a bad ignition control module or even a bad distributor? Even so, with your rpm's bouncing around like that, it sounds like a bad ecm. Let me know what you find. Later

 

yeah been thinkin that ordered my new ign. coil a lttle bit ago from summit gonna start with the cheap stuff first if coil doesnt work then gon move to the ign module an so forth. i'll post when i get the new coil on ina couple days. thanks for the suggestions ninetyone (an everybody else)

 

ok got my new msd coil got it in an still acting up i popped the air cleaner off an only one injector is spraying even when i open up the throttle only one sprays i presume bad injector??????
