another hotstart thread
Hey all just like to hear some opinions on a problem im having. My car starts when cold but when I try to start it hot it cranks slowly very slowly sometimes only for a second and then nothing it wont start at all. When i first got it thought the battery wasnt big enough so i put in a new one. Didnt help. The starter and solenoid are new checked the timing its fine. Now we tried just for the fun to start it with a boost and it cranked faster than ever before. So am I right to think the battery still isnt strong enough , its a 800 and something amp battery. should I consider an optima high amp battery? anyways just want to see what others have experienced.

If battery, solenoid, and timing are good about the only thing left is battery cables. Make sure they are clean, good ground, and are in good shape.

My battery terminals are as clean as can be... still find it weird that it only happens hot. Has annybody else dealt with this?

Did you look at the ignition control module? in the distributor, 2 screws, the grease dries out and leads to this symptom. I had a thread, "stall frustration, need help"

New starter n solenoid or a rebuilt unit???
Most are all rebuilt, hard to find brand new off the line, even then it could be a used case.
I had this happen 1 time and it was the solenoid which I only discovered by accident. Its was also new.
I discovered that when I grabbed the cables that hook on the back of the solenoid the end cap on it wiggled. Those things are rebuilt over n over n over and the threads were bugged up where the bolts felt tight, but didn't hold the end cap on tight.
Parts get warm and expand, and walla flaky to no contact resulting in a no start when hot.
And the problem is, those solenoids go right back into the system, Id bet by now 30 folks had fun dealing with the one I sent back and who knows how many before.
Cause when cold, the solenoid will test out as 100% A1 great shape.
