Oil Pumps?
I am getting around to finally replacing my 4 year old Summit stock replacement oil pan. It worked fine until I had to remove it, and it warped, and leaks like a an incontinent elderly person.
I picked up a Canton oil pan- 13-080M http://www.cantonracingproducts.com/...on&key=13-080M
The catch is, I have to use their pickup. No big deal there. My hitch is that when I assembled my engine 4 years ago, I used a Summit (Melling?) high volume pump with the pick up tack welded on.
I figure I don't plan on pulling the pan again, so I might as well replace the pump since I have to replace the pickup.
I'm leaning towards going from a HV pump to a Melling M55 pump, due to the HP loss (as slight as it is), and the fact the additional volume just gets recirculated into the pump (?). Right now, I blow the needle off the gauge cold idle, and warm I idle around 45PSI, and about 60-65psi cruising.
Am I thinking wrong here? Car will be driven on the street 99.9% of the time typically cruising the interstate, or around town. May see some road/drag race time in the future, but not very often, aside from a few WOT rips here and there on the street.
Specs on the engine are as follows:
305 block bored .040 over- lifter valley smoothed/polished
416 ported heads with Manley raceflow valves, Manley valve guides, Crane springs/retainers
stock crank .010 under, king silicone bearings- clearanced to tight side of stock.
stock rods
flat top KB pistons with Perfect Circle plasma moly rings
hydr. cam- 214/224, .442/.465
1.6 aluminum roller rockers
Summit HV oil pump

Re: Oil Pumps?
Be careful with the new melling pumps. its been awhile since I researched what they are doing lately but when I built my motor 3+ years ago there were major issues with Mellings castings. Read the link below.
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-t...disasters.html
I ended up getting one of their select series because of the thicker (old style) casting.
