burnoff does not work

burnoff does not work
i have had this car for over a year and have not seen the wire glow once. what do i check to fix this and would it be a prob not working, is it neccesary

the burnoff function in the mass air flow sensor aparently its supposed to glow red when you turnthe key on to burn off any contaminents
