So i bought my car (91 Rs V8 305 TBI) about a week ago, the previous owner told me that if i don't give it enough gas when reversing it will shut off sometimes. I didnt really think much of it then but now that i own it i see how much of a nuisance it can be.
My car idles at about 1000-1200 rpm sometimes as low as 700
When i put the car on reverse (sometimes not always) i can feel the engine slowly loosing power like if its about to turn off. Sometimes it will turn off on me but other times it wont.
Its not an instant shut down its more of a slow dying down shut down.
What could this be? and what can i do to fix this?
I haven't done a tune up yet, but i am going to change everything as soon as i can.
-Another issue that's been bothering me perhaps not as big as the above;
When i try to start the car i have to sometimes hold down on the key for a good 5-7 seconds, and then at times the car starts almost instantly.
Could it be the starter? spark plugs have anything to do with this? I will be changing those pretty soon.
Thanks for the help

Certainly sounds like the car would benefit from a good tune-up. Spark plugs, wires, oil, all filters, and maybe even cap/rotor. Is it a TBI, or TPI? RS should have TBI.
You're right it is indeed TBI my bad.
Yeah i kinda figured the tune up is overdue.

Yeah, TBI, and TPI are VASTLY different, haha. Anyway, just give her a nice tune-up and see what happens.Originally Posted by J0hn_J0hn08
