Still need motor help, video inside.

My motor is still acting up, haven't been able to enjoy this car since the motor swap, one thing after another. I am sure someone can get some ideas of whats going on judging by the exhaust note.

Heres what I have tried:
NEW MSD Distributor
NEW MSD Wires
NEW ACDelco Spark plugs
Edelbrock 1406 600cfm carb

Timing is currently set around 11-14* of initial timing. The car has the same problems with the timing all the way down to 2*. The car still pops, and misses, with an occaisonal backfire thrown into the mix.

In the video:
First is start-up/idle
Then rev'd to 2k RPM and held
Then rev'd to 3k RPM and held
Then 1 quick 2k rev.

Thanks, guys.

Hard to say from the video but from what I heard the exhaust sounds sharp, which makes me think lean A/F mixture. Are you using ported vacuum or manifold?

Give me some more details on how the engine operates under different driving conditions and I'll see what I can come up with.

I am not sure what you mean by "ported vacuum, or manifold"?

The car drives like this:

Always seems to fire right up, idles good, only notice a slight miss on occaisons when idling. The car bogs down hard, and jumps when given gas. If given medium-heavy throttle the motor revs down real hard and threatens to stall out. Throw in backfires, misses, etc. and thats how it drives. If the throttle is held at a constant RPM, you can hear the misses and backfires really well. It is alot easier to hear, and feel when your next to the car in person, but hard to hear with the camera.

I built the motor a while back. All of the miles on it (~300) are with the motor acting up.

Machined block .040 over
Speed pro flat top pistons
Reman'd 906 Vortec heads with oversized valves (2.02/1.6)
Polished crank
Stock cam, lifters, etc.
Performer intake
Edelbrock carb
Edelbrock headers

Let me ask you this:

What are the symptoms of valve lash being set too tight?

What are the symptoms of a vacuum leak at the intake gasket(s)?

These are 2 things that keep popping into my mind...

Re: Still need motor help, video inside.

From your discription, it sounds like it is related to spark. Have you had the dizzy tested and also make sure the wires are on in the correct firing order. The initial timing should not be that high. I think around 10-12 is max. Also, did you degree your cam?
