i need to get my 85 trans am inspected but my brake light on the dash is on . car stops fine been on for months all new calipers , pads , master cylinder . my question is will it pass with the brake warning light on ?? if anyone knows a garage in western ny that could pass me let me know thanks

 

thinking really, really, really hard... but I think that light is your hand brake light... if you were to have a brake light it would be an ABS light, which as far as I know did not exist during the 80s... ...

 

IIRC - the brake light will light up when there's a failure in the system. The "system" will view a major difference in pressure between front brakes and rear brakes - so maybe theres a problem with your proportioning valve.

BUT - easiest fix for the inspection - take the bulb out in the cluster, like a 15 minute job.

Call one station ask ask them about the light -if they say it's a problem, then remove the bulb and go to another station.

 

yeah i think i am just gona remove the bulb it annoys me anyways if anyone knows for sure if its passable in nys let me know to save me alittle time

 

this is on a completely different car but my 1990 Honda Accord's brake light is on too, but i didnt fail the inspection. i dont know if this helps, hopefully it did. but im also in a different part of NY and maybe there more lenient then in ur part

 

A brake warning light or a Service engine light on is a automatic
FAIL on a NYS Inspection.
