leaking coolent

I have an 87 iroc 305 carb engine and below the distribtor cap and off to the side a little bit there is a little rubber casket or stopper and it is torn a little bit and radator fluid is squirting out of it

Can someone please tell me what this is and cheapest and easyest way to fix.

Re: leaking coolent

What rubber piece? Looks like it's leaking from a NPT port on the rear water passage. Is there some kind of sensor or thermal switch in there? Hard to see.

Re: leaking coolent

Probably a npt to hose fitting w/ a cap over it? There is no gasket there, the 2 bolts are situated around the rear coolant port.

Re: leaking coolent

If it's a npt to hose adapter, it screws out. If it's a switch or sensor that broke off, it too screws out.

Re: leaking coolent

I'm just trying to figure out what the heck is/was there. Never seen a coolant anything on top of th rear of the intake. Should be a manifold vacuum tree back there, and there is a hole on top of the china wall that is usually either plugged or has an oil pressure sending unit attached.

Re: leaking coolent

On some cars the heater is connected to that port. Plugging it off w/ a rubber cap like that is asking for trouble. Get an NPT plug
