What is your fuel pressure?
Can you hear the pump prime? What I mean is, when you first turn the key on, can you hear the pump run for 2-3 seconds?

It would be best if you could get a fuel pressure gauge hooked up so you can report what's going on when you hear that hum. You may have a pump that is "running", but isn't putting out any pressure. Or, you may have a pump that runs when the ignition is turned on, but never runs after that.
One suspicious area is the oil pan. There is an oil pressure switch that is a back-up circuit for the fuel pump. If that circuit has been compromised (pinched, cut, loose, etc.), that could be your problem.

Re: Car starts then dies...
My car had that same problem the past 4 weeks. I changed everything in the ignition system new fuel filter and vac hoses, If your car has good fuel pressure and the problem persists check your injectors with an ohm meter to see if the impedance is at an accepted value. 4 out of the 6 on mine wen't bad and did as you explained.

well i just changed the spark plugs and still nothing and i know my fuel pump stays with pressure solid 40psi . i am wondering mayb the fuel injectors clog or mayb no spark. i dunno i am getting frustrated with trail and error

Good move with the fuel pressure check. That's testing, not guessing.
Spark check is fairly easy.
Clogged injectors isn't too likely.

Re: Car starts then dies...
do I test the injectors and how do I get to them. But if it's not the injectors I am running short on ideas what it could be. Vats? Computer? Crimp wire and where can it be found?

To be able to check all the injectors you are going to have to remove the plenum (the big silver part on top of the engine). Then once you do that you will see the fuel rail, on each side of the rail are three connectors that plug into each injector. Remove those connectors and with an ohm meter test to see if the injectors read between 11 to 14 ohms, and also if they are within .5 ohm variance over all six.

Thanks well here is the check list
Spark plugs **new
spark plug wire **new
Ignition coil **new
dizzy had s crimp wire soder and heat srink it
pelum has been remove and will check injectors tommrow to see if clog or no working.
fuel pressure test 40 psi and holds
any other checks/info/procedures would be great.. any input as well

Were your plugs wet or dry? Did you check spark?

Re: Car starts then dies...
I Did check for a spark and yea it works but when I took the old ones they were black and a bit wet. It's a 92 camaro 3.1 v6. How do u check/look for that MAF sensor. I am also thinking that it maybe out of timing now cuz I did have to take of the dizzy to fix a crip wire and snice I exchanged the spark wires I may have to that. Any ideas how to start that. Gonna research now but a pointer can help. All the input from everyone is helpful and I like shooting ideas out cuz it teachs me more

Re: Car starts then dies...
I think your car is MAP, not MAF. I could be wrong but all the V8 camaros from that year are and I have never owned or worked on a V6 third gen.

Re: Car starts then dies...
well here is some good/bad news... i have place the car in timing and i have spark again woot.. but the car doesn't wanna start. although it spudders when i put starter fluid in the intake so it kinda narrow my choices i think. unless someone else thinks otherwise. i am down to the a) injectors being dead or b) something controlling the injectors is bad... let the testing begin....

Re: Car starts then dies...
Check injector pulse using a test light or noid light. If you can get to one injector connector or find one of the two injector drive circuits in a connector outside the intake. I assume you have a good repair manual with thorough wiring diagrams.

Re: Car starts then dies...
well i check one of the injector and it read 5ohm. i dunno about the others yet but i am betting that they are all dead. so i am thinking about doing a swap. i hear that the injectors from a ford bronco 2/ranger 2.9 give my car better response.

Re: Car starts then dies...
I would just put some stockers back in that are tested to assure good matched flow. With the bronco injectors (or anything thats not LIKE stock) the ECM wont know how to keep it stoich unless theres a tune.

That'll be $238.47 cash or credit? We dont accept checks from people with third gen camaro's!
