nice looking car
Have you tried any kind of starting fluid? Or even spraying fuel into the throttle body just to see if it will start.

Re: car wont start! help please.
Are you checking to make sure these parts are bad before replacing or just spending money? Check to see if the relay is clicking on. If its not then you need to find out why its not clicking on. The ECM should be controlling the pump driver. There should also be an oil pressure sending unit that'll shut the pump off if there isn't enough oil pressure. I'm dealing with a similar issue now myself, good luck.

Re: car wont start! help please.
My '91 RS 305 TBI (127k miles) just died on me as well. I'm pretty sure it's the fuel pump. I turn the key on and hear the fuel pump relay for 2 seconds, but I don't hear the usual hum of the pump coming from the rear. I also checked the 20 amp fuse and it is good. I read in my service manual that in order to change out the pump, you have to remove the fuel tank. To do this, you must also remove the rear axle as well as the exhaust. Is this correct? If so, anyone done this and can it be done at the house?
Re: car wont start! help please.
I just replaced the fuel pump on my 91 RS 305 TBI. It wasn't really all that difficult, but I do have a nice garage, floor jacks, jack stands, and air tools. It took me about 2 hours to do it all.
To drop the tank, you do have to drop the rear end, and the exhaust, but they don't have to come all the way out. I disconnected my exhaust at the cat, and swung it out of the way (exhaust tips towards the passenger side. I removed my lower shock mounts (as well as the sawy bar end links, and the panhard baralong with the brace. I dropped the rear to where the brake line is tight (but not too tight!) and was the able to remove the tank.
88iroctpi..I too am still haveing a problem with starting my car, and I haven't figured it out yet. It started with a bad fuel pump (for sure, as I had no fuel pressure) Now I have fuel, my injectors are firing, and I have bypassed the Vats. Every now and then the engine will catch while the started is running, but the engine won't run. I had to go overseas so I haven't worked on it for a week or so, but I plan to work on it this weekend when I get back to Texas.

kmdracer,
Thanks for the quick reply
. I don't have the air tools, but I do have everything else. I'm going to give it a try this weekend. Are you an experienced gear head or just a weekend warrior? Two hours seems pretty quick.
88iroctpi,
On my '91, there is a 20 amp fuse on the passenger side fender, just aft of the battery. Have you checked that yet?

Re: car wont start! help please.
So you are all good now 88iroctpi305? I'm back home now but havent had a chance to look at mine yet. I did notice that since it rained cats and dogs while I was gone, I have about a 1/2 inch of water inside the drivers side rear floorboard. Gonna have to figure out where that leak is coming from now!

I had to replace the computer to fix that problem :/
Re: car wont start! help please.
I just got back from a day on the bay fishing and taking the kids to the beach. So a quick question for ya. Do you have a multimeter (DMM)? If you do, have you measured to see if you are getting power to the fuel pump/sender plug under the car, near the tank? You have to measure to ground. One of the wires is the fuel pump 12v signal, one is the ground, and one is the fuel level signal. I don't remember which is which right now, but hopefully if I have time tomorrow, I'll look in my schematics and let you know.

Re: car wont start! help please.
ok sounds good. and my new fuse is blown too so maybe a ground or a bare wire?
Re: car wont start! help please.
Yeah, I'd say you have a wiring problem if your new fuse blew. I'd say most likely a short to ground, wither in your Oil prssure switch, fuel pump relay or your fuel pump.
Sounds like it time for you to get some schematics out and a DMM to find the short.
I haven't messed with mine much lately, been too busy working or fishing.
