I've got a question, is a 700R4 still usable with a crack about 2 inches long on the bell housing or would the bell housing need to be replaced? All the bolt holes around the bell housing are in good shape.

Is the crack all the way through? How severe is the crack?

Re: 700R4

I'm trying to transfer a pic from my camara right now, not having much luck. What happen was that when the motor was being taken out the end of it got caught on bell housing of the tranny. Took out a inch chip of bell housing plus caused a crack about 2 inches long. If you are standing right over the tranny facing the convertor its starting at 3 inches from center to left going back towards the tail.

Re: 700R4

Sounds bad. If you want to risk it, first determine where the rear end of the crack actually is. Then drill a 1/2" hole there, so the crack can't go any farther. Then get the crack welded.

Re: 700R4

Deffinatly don't put the trans back in until you can get it welded. Like Atilla said, drilling a small hole at the end will stop the crack, but putting it under stress could just cause more problems.

Bellhousing is not removable ; you would have to replace the whole case

Re: 700R4

If it is something short term you can go to tinypic.com There is a place one screen to upload a picture. You click a few things and pick the picture that is from your computer, and then there is a list of 4 things to copy and paste the link.

If you want the picture to last forever/or until you delete it, then use photobucket or some site like that. You have to register for these kind of sites. On youtube there are a few tutorials to watch if you still don't understand.
