Re: Looking at an 88 need opinion

I'm assuming it's carbed - which begs my first question ... is it legal in your area? Federally it's not legal emissions wise, but the feds don't check. But alot of states follow fed regs, and look for emissions equip. An aftermarket carb is not emissions legal on a car that was factory TBI or TPI.

Re: Looking at an 88 need opinion

That doesn't make it legal, it just means that in your area, they don't check for emissions compliance on a vehicle like yours. That's the important thing. But no where in any of the 50 states is that legal given that Federal law doesn't allow for the removal of ANY emissions equipment from vehicles made after 1973.

Re: Looking at an 88 need opinion

well it being an 88 would make it emissions test exempt in illinois and if i know correctly the only thing they could get me for is altered exhaust since they cannot make me leagally open my hood without a warrant so all i would need is legal mufflers and a cat or cat shell right. and truth be told the cops by me have alot better things to do then check my car out. but back to my original question is it a good deal in your eyes ?

It sounds like a good deal all things considered. But pics would help a lot in determining the car's ultimate value.

Re: Looking at an 88 need opinion

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me, I'd suggest checking the price of similar vehicles in your area to get a better idea.

Also, could a mod just make a sticky or something about how illegal it is to change your induction or tamper with emissions equipment, etc, etc, so every thread where someone mentions it doesn't have six people jump in just to say it's against the law?
