305 powered 81' C10 owner needing engine info

I need some assistance and knowledge. I recently purchased a 1981 c10 that is powered by a 1990 Camaro 305 engine. Motor is now a stock internaled carb motor ( edelbrock 600cfm ) I want to know what if anything on the motor block ie: casting numbers or what have you, will tell me what 305 engine it truely is. I understand it could be one of a few motors L03 or LB9. I am trying to get an idea of what kind of power the engine is putting out aside from a dyno of course.

2nd part once I find out what engine is in the car. What kind of estimated hp am I making with a carbed motor and headers with a fully unrestricted exhaust in comparison to its original power being TBI/TPI injected with stock exhaust.

Thanks for anyones insight
Adam

Best bet would be to look for the suffix code. Its in front of the passenger side head stamped into the machined flat surface. That will tell you what the block came from anyways.

Once you have the 2 or 3 letter code you can check here

ok so, I checked and double checked and even though the alternator is in front of the pass head, there is certainly no numbers stamped into the head. Any other ideas?

You would actually have to take the alternator off to read that pad. Thats not on the head itself its on the block. Right where the water pump bolts on.

A 1981 C10 should have a LE9 engine. First year for the Q-Jet, ESC, 53cc 601 heads, and 929 cam. 165-180 HP, 245-255 TQ depending on the application. Also the first year for the 7 bolt exhaust manifolds with the over spark plug orientation.
