Very Low Oil Pressure

I have a 1988 Camaro Sport Coupe. When i start it up, the oil pressure will be around 35-40. Then when the car starts to warm up after a couple of blocks the pressure will go down until it reaches zero. Any ideas of what it could be? thank you in advance.

Re: Very Low Oil Pressure

Change the oil sending unit with a GM unit. Then change the oil with Castrol high milage 20w50 motor oil and try that before going into deep. This will run you around $50.00 to $65.00 for the oil, filter and oil sending unit. You have nothing to lose.

Re: Very Low Oil Pressure

Do like said above, change the oil. You may not even need the thicker oil if your current oil is very old and thinned out. If the problem persists it's excessive clearances and could mean a rebuild is in your future, a high vol oil pump is just a bandaid but may stretch the lifespan. A good way to test it is to measure the pressure are the furthermost accessible point, that is the oil gallery plug on the front, pass side above the water pump/timing cover. A reading there will tell you more about the pressure reading in the extremities of the oiling system instead of the port just above the filter pad.
