I just went outside to unlock my car doors and I couldn't!

When you turn the key to open the door it should make a click and it opens. I've never had a problem with it until tonight.

What is happening is my key is able to go both ways freely! On both sides, passenger and driver. I CAN'T get into the car now.

This isn't a simple issue regarding being locked out with my keys inside, this is my actual doors/locks being messed up.

Any help with this would be grateful. I have power everything on my car but my doors can be manually locked/unlocked too. Last night I unlocked my driver door and it was fine. It's like someone messed up my locking mechanism or something.

 

theres gotta be a wire somewhere to activate the locks..

 

Whatever happened to it is a mystery to me. It opened up last night when I was doing some car work. I don't understand it now. I'm hoping nobody tried to get into my car by punching halfway through the door locks??? What would cause the wire to not engage?

 

try opening the rear hatch with the key, then crawl in - at least you'll get in that way.

 

I went ahead and ordered a Slim Jim from an online website for $12. I'll try to fix the interior of the door when I get the chance.

 

A simple plastic clip holds the rod in place. It may have broken and the rod fallen out. Check the following link, post #10 for a diagram:

Thanks for the advice guys. I checked the link out too. I had to order a Slim Jim though so I can get into the car. I will leave the doors unlocked after this until a locksmith can come out and fix the doors.
