Oil filter relocation

Just a couple of questions, I am learning. I bought Mocals oil thermostat to use with my oil cooler. Its the one that bolts to the block above the filter. It wont clear the custom y pipe I had made for my LS1 swap.

This leads me into my question. I have the thermostatic sandwich adapter that came with my oil cooler. I was thinking of doing a filter relocation, (because with the sandwich adapter my filter hangs dangerously low to the ground) and use the sandwich adapter on the relocated filter.

I have been told that oil will drain back from the relocated filter and I will not have oil upon start up.

Is it as simple and using a one way check valve to prevent the oil from draining back and having proper oil upon start up?

If it isnt a good set up then I will get my y pipe redone. Thanks.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm just gonna need pics if I'm gonna venture an opinion.

Re: Oil filter relocation

My l31 came with oil cooler also in the same place, the machinist I used advised me to get rid of the oil cooler. Since its a street car he said the cooler was not worth the trouble like what your going into. So I junked it,and bolted filter adapter to the block.
