Valve Guides

1988 Camaro. 305 TBI.

I have taken the car into the shop and it has been diagnosed to have bad valve guides. Assuming the mechanic is correct, how big of a job is it to change out the valve guides? I have the standard set of garage tools; nothing too fancy, but still a pretty wide selection. Is this something I would be able to undertake myself, or should I leave this up to the shop to do?
